A. I feel nervous, just like when the drama first aired in Korea. I look forward to see how '100 Days Husband' will be received by Japanese viewers.
Q. While introducing your character, please tell us a few points to look out for!
A. Yool, the character that I played is a crown prince that is condescending with a rough personality. On the opposite, Wondeuk is a very innocent character. The story is an unpredictable romantic comedy that started from a tragedy in the past. I think the viewers can look for the beautiful visual and the great acting presented by the cast.
Q. What was your first impression upon reading the script for the first time?
A. It was really fun! It made me want to act as both yool and wondeuk.
Q. This is your first historical drama, how do you prepare for it?
A. Since this is my first historical drama, I paid attention into the intonation and motions used in historical drama. Because of that, I prepared a lot focusing in that area. I also practiced horseback riding and martial arts for the action scenes in the drama. However I didn't have many chance to practice horseback riding before the filming start due to my schedule so I learned the points of it from the teacher in the filming set and practiced little by little. I was given guidance so that it won't be dangerous, and we were able to film it safely.
Q. How was acting with actress Nam Jihyun for the first time?
A. When I first met her, her image is just like what I imagined it to be. She is really cheerful and overflowing with energy. And since Jihyun-ssi has been acting since her days of being an child actor, she is a senior to me. In the filming set I learned many things from her. Whenever Jihyun-ssi is around, she is able to made the atmosphere become happy with her overflowing energy.
Q. The chemistry between firm hongshim and innocent wondeuk looks great
A. I discussed a lot with Jihyun-ssi on that. Because she is a senior that has is more experienced than me, I learned a lot through here. While being paired with here we discussed and consulted many things like "For this kind of scene, it's better if it's done like this, it's better if we show it like this".
Q. The Crown Prince and Wondeuk, what points you're focusing on to play the 2-in-1 character?
A. In the end since both of them are one character so there's no method as to 'do it like this as yool' or 'do it like this as wondeuk'. It was the people inside the palace and the village people who made the atmosphere that brought out yool and wondeuk character. That's why I think I was able to play as yool and wondeuk naturally.
Q. What are the similarities and differences between you and your role?
A. I think similarities between me, yool, and wondeuk is the manliness side. But Yool's rough personality and his condescending look on others doesn't resemble me at all. Also, I think Wondeuk's innocent side doesn't resemble myself (laughs).
Q. There are many beautiful scenes of you under the cherry blossom trees and being surrounded by falling cherry blossom petals, is there any filming place that leave an impression to you?
A. The place that I remember the most is the village. It was filmed at a place named Nagan Eupsong Folk Village in Suncheon and the scenery that is captured by the cmaera is so beautiful that I still remember it today. It's a really great place, I still remember how the cherry blossom petals falling in full stretch when spring comes.
Q. There's a fun 'delusional' scene of you who are receiving love coaching from Gudol, please tell us an interesting episode while filming?
A. The 'love practice' that Wondeuk was learning from Gudol is very old style (laughs). Since Wondeuk didn't know a thing so he followed it but it always end up in failure (laughs). The filming for the scene were fun, we were laughing while filming! There were many NG because of the non-stop laughing (laughs).
Q. Be it inside the palace or the village people who are protecting Wondeuk, there's an assemble cast of supporting actors, is there any advice you received from these senior actors?
A. Of course I've received advice from them and because they are great veteran actors I learned enormously just by watching them acting on set. Since this is my first lead role, I have my worries and was very nervous but the senior actors are really friendly while teaching me. That's how I could act with a comfortable mind in the filming set.
Q. On KNTV the drama appendix special of '100 Days Husband' is being aired first in Japan and judging from the making film it seems like that mood on the set is full of delight
A. It was always fun in the filming set! Each of the actors are overflowing with energy and cheerful atmosphere. Laughter is flowing continuously in the filming set.
Q. Who is the mood maker at the filming set?
A. Inside the palace, there are many dark scenes but Jo Seungha senior is always being cheerful. Even though he's acting as a villain but thanks to him we're laughing a lot. Meanwhile in the village, Lee Junhyeok senior is undoubtedly the mood maker.
Q. It seems like there are many NG because of all the laughing
A. That's true (laughs) I think I had the most NG (laughs) I couldn't hold my laughter at the filming set. In the village, not only me but many people also laugh a lot that we had many NGs. It's because of Lee Junhyeok's senior voice like I mentioned before, and even just by seeing his appearance we also laughed. I remember that we were laughing to the point of not being able to go into filming. At that time it was because of senior Lee Junhyeok that we laughed extremely (laughs).
Q. What is the response from EXO members?
A. The members gave out good response! Xiumin and Chen watched it timely until the last episode and the members said they watched it happily. I feel glad hearing it from them. Everyone is busy with their own schedules but they'd catch my drama on time. They also said that 'you did well' and supported me that give me a lot of strength. I heard how Chen discovered a new side of me through the drama, he said that 'This is my first time seeing you kissing someone'. Of course it'd be strange if he saw me kissing before (laughs). I enjoyed his reaction on that (laughs). Because of the members support I gained a lot of strength.
Q. What is the impression that this project leave to Kyungsoo-ssi?
A. To me... '100 Days Husband' is work full of memory and happiness. We received good responses beyond our imagination and I'm so thankful of it until now. This project has given me enormous amount of strength and will become a project that I'll remember for a lifetime.
Q. If you were able to be someone/to do something for 100 days, what would you do?
A. Rather than transforming to be something, I want to try something new. Because I like cooking and eating delicious foods, if I was given a chance to do something in 100 days it would be getting a cooking license and trying to be a restaurant chef instead of being a singer or an actor.
Q. There are few great kissing scenes in the drama, how was the filming for those scenes?
A. I pondered on how to make the scene came out prettily. I discussed it with the director and asked the camera PD to capture a beautiful video. I also discussed with Jihyun-ssi on how to made the scene.
Q. It is fun seeing the crown prince talking style not disappearing even after he became Wondeuk. Is it difficult to keep acting in the crown prince's talking style?
A. I don't think it was difficult because Yool and Wondeuk are the same person. So I just acted in the same way. Because the crown prince's attitude is still there, Wondeuk is talking to the village people like he's giving order (laughs) and to the villagers it is seen as an unpredictable thing, it was funny. Instead of it being difficult, it was fun because I get to act like a kid at the village.
Q. On wearing yool's outfit and Wondeuk outfit that is the complete opposite, how was your first experience in wearing hanbok? It must've been hot but you match it very well.
A. It was really hot but there aren't many instances where I can wear historical outfit so it was a new experience for me. Moreover I was able to wear hanbok that are worn for a palace setting so I thought "back then they lived daily while wearing outfit like this" and it become a learning experience for me. Wondeuk and Yool outfit are the complete opposite but because the outfit for the palace setting has a grand style with an ornament placed in the body, the crown prince attire is a little bit uncomfortable. In the opposite, the hanbok I worn after being Wondeuk was simple and comfortable to wear. I personally think rather than the crown prince attire, the commoners hanbok was easier to wear and made me comfortable to move.
.Q. A role you want to try in the future?
A. I don't think of doing a specific role. I'm interested in all kinds of genre so I want to act in any genre without distinction. For example, from all genre I especially want to try a human drama genre because I like a project that gives off that kind of feeling.
Q. After debuting as an actor in 2014, which one of your work that become your turning point?
A. I think all of my projects are my turning points. It's because there's something to learn from every projects that I did. Every time I ended a projects I gained a new motivation to keep challenging things. After finishing '100 Days Husband' I quickly wanted to try a new role right now. If the chance exist, I want to keep trying acting no matter the genre.
Q. Lastly, please say a few words to the viewers who are anticipating the drama.
A. Hello japanese viewers, '100 Days Husband' is about to be broadcasted in Japan. I feel nervous but I'm curious to see how japanese viewers would receive '100 Days Husband'. This drama is a very entertaining yet warm and happy drama. Please look forward to it and I'd be happy if you give it much love. Thank you.
